Business Information: Gaelkat

Gaelkat
Ideas into words

I help my clients write about their business and themselves. If you say ‘copywriter’ to a lot of people they’re not quite sure what it means, unless they have some experience of the advertising industry. I am a writer, but I am unusual in that I write for other people and not for myself. I can be called quite a few things; a copywriter, journalist and ghostwriter. I write everything from editorial to book proposals, ads to strap lines.

My background is the advertising world and PR.I have also worked in publishing, TV, the music industry and the City before I set up Gaelkat Ltd in 2001. My clients are extremely intelligent, talented business people who either do not have the time to write about their business, or have tried and discovered the closer you are to the subject the harder it is to write about it.

I am rather fierce when it comes to language and ruthless about hackneyed phrases, management-speak and clichés. Ideas, vision and talent are so important and it is vital to communicate with your audience in a clear and exciting way and not blind them with jargon. It is also important to really understand who it is you want to talk to and they want to hear.

I have a reputation for my outspoken views on language and am often asked to talk to business people about communication and language. I’ve done my fair share of breakfast, lunch and dinner speeches, and I actually enjoy it. If I can change the way people think about they way they write I’ll stand on any stage and talk to anyone, even at some ungodly hour of the morning!

My clients tell me that I have a knack for grasping what it is they want to say, understanding their "voice" and producing copy that sounds exactly like them, but much, much better. My view is that they are all talented people with something important to say, and if I can help them say it brilliantly, I am one happy scribbler.
