Best search engine to use...

Hi everyone

I have used Google since I first came onto the internet, but am interested if this is still the best search engine to use?

I'm conscious that some things change over time and a couple of friends have mentioned that MSN also gives quite accurate results.

Which search engine do you tend to use?

Thanks!

David

Hi David

I still tend to use Google, but also use Yahoo from time to time.

I think whichever search engine you use you often have to try a few queries until you get the sort of result set that you are after!

Many years ago (before Google existed and then came to the fore) I used Altavista and Yahoo.

Very occasionally still use them, but 99% of the time stick with Google!

(Yet another) vote for Google here!

Have also used Lycos on occasion, just to be different. No idea how the other search engines make money (if they do) given the domination of the big G!

Google, Yahoo and MSN are the 'big three' today.

- AltaVista was merged into Yahoo
- MSN, Ask.com and Lycos all use the same image search technology from Picsearch

cheers,
Tema.

You could use something like Dogpile that searches loads of other different search engines all at once.

I prefer Google for my web searching as it tends to be the most reliable. As it is Google's core business I would expect only the best from them!

Google has the most websites in thier directory and the most pages, they are also updated the fastest.

If you go with Yahoo your generaly getting a list of better more established companies.

MSN is decent but it doesnt have the list google has and is not as exclusive as yahoo.

If you want a real list of good websites try DMOZ.org, they are the most important directory on the internet, quite exclusive.

I tend to use Google, but if you were looking to buy something for instance and you wanted a reputable company Yahoo and especialy DMOZ will be a better choice.
