Thanks for the advice, but what is the scam?

What do they do? Are you saying they say they will pay you vi Western Union, but don't send the money? Or are you saying they ask you to pay them money via Western Union & then don't send out the goods?

What kind of disparity you are talking about? Disparity between western and eastern nations? Dispartity between west and east China? Disparity between rich and poor? Email to let me know, and then I will let you know.

It is not remotely normal business practice for a Chinese supplier to ask for prepayment in the way you describe. Any request for payment other than by letter of credit is a red flag. Ideally if you are dealing with a new supplier your letter of credit should also require a certificate of validation by their local chamber of commerce, (Canton Hong Kong etc.) and you should confirm that this has been done directly with them.

NEVER get involved in any import business with a supplier whose email address ends with the likes of abcd@aol - google - yahoo - hotmail.com etc.

Also if your quantities are relatively small then you should in any case be directed towards the supplier's UK or European agent. Most suppliers require a significant piece of a 20 foot container at least in order to ship.
