Company Stationery and Legal Requirements...

Hi all

Quite a minor one, but just a reminder that you have to put your registered address and - I believe - your company registration number on your business stationery.

All companies also have to display their name outside their premises... I wonder how many people who run their company from home actually do this, though?!

Not that many probably Tim - I suppose technically you could get fined for this?

I guess so Jim, not sure if anyone actually has been though? I'm sure the majority of work from home businesses don't display this anyway...

Hard to prove all this though

I have never heard of someone being fined or otherwise punished for falling to display the name of the company outside their place of business.

I know of some accountants and solicitors who have thousands of registered office addresses at the premises and what they do is to have a book which lists all of them. This is perfectly legal I believe and prevents then from having to plaster the external windows and doors with company plaques.

In situations where the place of business is a home address, the pleasing look of a residence could be ruined by having “Bloggs & co” hanging on the front door.

This seems to be one area of law where commonsense has prevailed.

Commonsense prevailing, in New Labour's Britain? Well it must be the exception to the rule then

Business licenses and certificates should also be displayed conspicuously within the business premises.

Xavier - does that apply for work-at-home one person businesses too?
