Do PR websites work...

Hi all

There are quite a web sites out there where you can write and submit your own PR articles.

My question really is whether these work - does anyone have experience of these and has it actually generated any real interest / work?

Thanks

Tim

I have no evidence, but my suspicion is that very few of the web sites where you submit your articles will actually lead to publicity.

I imagine that anywhere it is worth getting your news story into will not be the sort of publications that browse through these websites looking for articles to pick up - they will be inundated with them each day anyway.

The cynic inside me tends to agree with Chris, BUT one of my friends submitted to a site - think it might have been prweb.com - and had interest from a couple of newspapers on the back of it, so I guess you can be lucky and get picked up, particularly with an interesting story on a quiet news day.

Good luck to everyone with their PR

Do they work?

Yes they can. But it depends on how good your content is.

You can use the free press release distribution sites in two ways.

Firstly to spread your message to a wider audience. Thius does work but you need to put up a real news story.

The second way you can use these sites is to create high quality one way back links to your site that will enhance your position within the search engines. If this is your objective, then make sure that you use some of the keywords that appear on the page you are pointing to.

This page will give you more info. http://www.clikonmarketing.com/rubrique.php?id_rubrique=8

The article submission sites (which are different to the press release sites) will not effect your page ranking to any great effect. But you might find someone picking up on your story for their site.

Hope this helps.

David

One of my friends works at a local newspaper, and he says that from time to time they do take a look at a few select sites on the web to see if there is anything of local interest that has been posted, particularly in a week where the most thrilling thing is 'cat stuck a tree shocker!'

I think it's very hit and miss though, and almost certainly more miss than hit...

I agree with David re use of pr releases. I submit releases and articles to these pr sites, but mainly to create back links to my website and blog. When I searched on google for a certain keyword, an article that I submitted to prweb actually appeared on first page.

So it is a good idea, but don't it is only a small part of my whole SEM plan.

As mentioned above, I'm under the impression that the main reason people submit to PR websites is not because they expect to get direct interest from publications per se, but in order to get some back links to their site. So I guess they have uses beyond the obvious!
