Domain Names Scams...

For anyone that owns domain names here, they will probably have experienced getting letters from apparent domain name registrars very kindly telling them that their domains are about to expire, and that they will renew them for them... at usually a high rate which is a rip off.

This is essentially a scam and has been going on for years and years, is there nothing the government can do to stop this happening or is it simply that they don't care?

Had a round of five letters today in the post all with regard different domains and the amount of junk mail for those of us with lots of domains is a joke.

I often ask similar questions with regard all these scams or at least extremely misleadingly written letters - apparently the answer is no!

I guess these sorts of scams are like the Nigerian money scams that have been going around for years. The government probably can't do anything to stop them - all it can do is issue press releases and the like telling people to be aware.

Death to junk mail.

When it comes to stopping spam by post there is a form you can fill in and the post office won't deliver all those annoying leaflets and other circulars 'to the householder'.

When you complete the form to stop it you also have to tick a box saying something like you understand really important communications might not get delivered too, but apart from that worrying disclaimer it really does stop a lot of the rubbish!
