EBay business shops - any experience?...

Hi all

I have been thinking about setting up a shop on ebay for a while to sell bits and pieces - wondered if anyone has any experience of this or tips?

I thought it might lend more kudos to selling things than just the odd random transaction as an individual...?

Hi Thomas

Just noticed that no-one has added their thoughts on this question... perhaps there are no ebay experts here at present.

However there are literally millions of hints and tips websites out there with information on ebay selling, most of them free, that may be worth checking out.

Take a look for starters at:

Loads of hints and tips there!

One of the hardest things must be getting prominence for your products if you operate in a competitive market - for instance as an individual selling items of clothing against all the thousands of stores on there must be pretty hard, so all credit to those who do it successfully!

I have been selling on eBay for last 4 yrs and is a good starting point to start a online business before going to have a full web store for yourself. Although there are fixed recussing costs associated with an eBay store, it is worth it provided you have good unique products and in variety.

Let me know if you require further information. I'm always ready for assistance.

There's so much competition for every type of product these days... how do you manage to compete against them all?

Good question Lianne - when you sell odds and sods of rubbish, erm I mean good quality merchandise, from around your house you no longer need - you list it, and find there are about ten thousand other items similar to it!

I think most items go in the last ten minutes as people search by time left in an auction and try to espy a bargain at that stage; bids during the rest of the time seem rather flat on most items.

You will do okay on Ebay if you have a niche market and a good poduct range. Try buying one or two items first, then try selling one or two. Just to see how the system works. Do your research. Who else is selling what you sell and for how much? Is it exactly the same? How is it different? Have good photographs and write a good, honest and detailed descriptions. Do not over charge for postage. You can put a link from your About Me page to your website if you have one. You can brand yourself a bit with an email shop and make it look good. I would recommend getting "Selling Manager Pro" to re list products for you. Selling on Ebay can be very labour intensive otherwise. It is a good starting off place or a good addition to an existing business but Ebay are always changing their rules and the way they do things so you couldn't rely on it. It is okay as an extra. Ebay have their own Forums so you could go through to one of them and ask the same question.

Yes its very hard to make money on ebay. All the scandals about them not policing the site well have caused people to become reticence about buying and selling on there, ebay is a business model that will not be around for long.
