Google Caffeine Released...

Some of you will have seen that the Google Caffeine release is now finally being rolled out, according to news from people in the know.

But what does this actually mean and what impact will it have on your rankings that you've worked hard to build up over the years?

The key difference is said to be that the index will update quicker and therefore be fresher. To do this it will pull more content from social media such as twitter, one presumes. Also websites will be indexed more frequently to continually push fresh content into the index quickly. This means that you should see more influence on the time relevance of when articles and content was published.

Practically, if you run a website, this means it is more important than ever that you keep content on your site up to date and regularly add new content so that your site appears fresh and maintained rather than languishing in the wilderness like a large number of other websites.

I agree - the focus is now on fresh, relevant and useful content. That's what people want to read, so that's what Google wants to deliver.

The fact that they now have an option on the left menu to filter results by 'blog' or 'discussions' shows that having blogs, forums and other interactive content on your site is something Google is becoming increasingly focused on.

That's really useful to know thanks Tim. As one of those who doesn't have a finger on the IT/internet pulse, it would have probably passed me by otherwise.

Well, actually they make smaller changes and tweakings in their algorithm every now and then, so most important is not to go after each news and panic, but just to follow common sense and follow the basic guideliness. Then you won't need to know what's the next buzz name out there.
