Not heard of speed networking earlier, but is it a bit like speed dating? As in getting a few minutes to talk to a range of people.

If so, I'm not sure this is a good idea. It can take time for interesting infomation and links and connections to come out between people and in an artificially pressured environment I don't think it would be the best way to get the most out of networking.

I haven't either, I prefer doing my networking online, that way it doesn't matter how tired you look after a hard day's work!!!
