Help... I need some advice on ''Social bookmarking''?...

Hi there,

I have recently launched a website where people can buy books online: http://www.alwaysreading.co.uk . From what I have read it seems that one of the best ways to promote a new website is through 'Social Bookmarking'. If anyone can shed some more light on what this is and how to go about doing it I would be very grateful!!

Yes, one good way is through joining sites such as this and doing exactly what you are doing - promoting the site as long as you do so in a sensible way that also adds value to the community.

As Sasha says, to promote a website unfortunately requires a lot of work over a period of time and shortcuts are few and far between.

Hopefully when people visit the site they will be impressed enough to mention it to their friends and family and that will help to spread the word too...

Try signing up to Twitter and adding all your friends on there too - then it is simply a case of posting Twits on keywords that you want those who are interested in your site to be alerted on and you might be able to gain some traffic that way too...

It depends on the site as to whether social bookmarking is effective and in your case I do not think that it will be.

You should join forums relating to books, reading books, etc & post on there regularly & have links to your web-site in your signature. This will help with getting you more traffic & increasing your web-sites search engine ranking (providing you use anchor text).

You should also post regulrly on blogs related to books, etc & have links going back to your site. This should be very effective for you. Post on book review sites & review the books you have to sell with links back to your books!

Obvioulsy getting your web-site optimised will also help get you traffic & sales!
