How to increase ecommerce conversion rate...

A simple tip on how to get more conversions from your ecommerce site - display prices in the currency used by your visitors.

So if a visitor to the site is from the UK then display prices in GBP, if they are from the States display in dollars, and if from Europe display in Euros.

Detect their country from their IP address, which will give you the right location in the majority of cases - clearly display the option to change currency however in case your script gets it wrong.

Displaying prices in the most familiar and understood currency to your visitor is a good way to help increase conversion rates rather than defaulting all visitors to one currency which many of them may not be familiar with. Hope this helps

Not one that affects me personally, but out of interest... how do you go about finding out which country someone is from - how do you pick up their IP address information?

This would be of interest to me too - I know a couple of people who run sites selling stuff so would like to pass the method on

It's quite simple.

Your IP address is carried with you wherever you go - like an ID card.
It identifies your computer and your host and usually where you are (via your ISP).

It would depend on what platform your E-Commerce site is based for you to run an acceptable script to identify which country your customers are from.

You can get lots of free scripts from many resources on the net.

Hope this helps

Hi all

As Idge01 has said, the method is fairly simple. In terms of accessing the IP address, one way to do this is through PHP. You can access it easily through the server variables:
$gotip = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];

You can then look up which country that IP address belongs to using a variety of different tables of IP addresses that you can either buy or download from various places for free on the internet (IPs are assigned on a country basis).

You can also drill down even further with some purchased lists. Don't expect total accuracy however it is a good guide to where most of your visitors are from.

If you need any help getting this on your sites, let me know.
