Hi all

Can anyone tell me how to resize a picture? I'm sure it's simple but they all become massive through my digital camera and not sure how to reduce the size of them...

Thanks!

Carl

There are many image manipulation packages you can use. One that I have used for a while that is free is called irfanview:
http://www.irfanview.com

Small and quick to download and very easy to use: just load the image (drag in or browse to) then press choose Image --> Resize and there enter the desired size for the image. Save the result and that's it!

There are many applications that both free and paid for that can handle image manipulation, but for simplicity MS Paint can resize images. Just go to Image -> Attributes and then enter your new size.

Just to let you know not all programs resize in the same quality, using paint is fine if you are using fractions like going to a quarter or halve size, but the quality will go down drasticaly if you go down say 22%.

If you want to do a really good professional job for a webpage or something, Photoshop is still probably the best out there but it has a heavy pricetag also. It will also reduce the size of the file for faster webpage loading.

I built my whole website initialy using Paint to resize, and I regret a lot of the jagged edges some of my photos had from that time.

PBScott you're very right about the quality of images degrading if you don't use a professional package. I found another program recently that's completely free of charge and I've been using that for my images recently: Paint.Net

It's very similar in style and function to Photoshop and can also open Photoshop documents.

Tim, thanks for your comment. I only recently found this site and just wanted to share my knowledge/opinions. Plus some of the posts on here have been helpful to me as well!
