How was December for you?...

Interested to find out how Christmas trading / December went for those who run ecommerce stores.

The small ecommerce store I have did very well over Christmas.

Interestingly more orders came in the week before the week before Christmas, rather than the week before Christmas. I wonder if this was due to people not trusting the postal service to deliver in time for orders placed the week before, or if it was just one of those things?

Be good to find out others experiences, for any members here that are in or around ecommerce

December has definitely been a month of two halves.

I found the first half of the month to be good with the most trading between around the 5th to 15th December.

After that date the orders dropped off, despite orders being taken right up until the 20th.

I suspect the point of people not trusting the postal service to deliver in time certainly had a part to play!

Business was good before christmas, but during and after it was quite quiet. i was thinking that the importers were still on their vacation?

by the way, how did your guys do on christmas day? is there any interesting stories?

I found that November and the beginning of December was not too bad, although I think slightly quieter than the same period last year.

I only started trading in late October 07, really thought I would miss the Christmas trade. In fact I had been warned that if I got a couple of orders as week for the first couple of months I would be doing well. But couldnt believe how busy I was. I even had customers trying to place orders on Christmas Eve and asking if I would be able to get items to them in time!!

Went dead quiet immediately after Christmas but starting to pick up again now.

This is my first business venture so very new to all of it.

Thanks for the replies everyone - interesting stuff.

Spott Dottie - how did you manage to get so much business so quickly, did you undertake marketing such as with google adwords as was it just word of mouth? To get such a response so quickly is indeed both unusual and impressive!

Interesting to hear that Tema, most ecommerce sites have loads in Dec and very little in Jan - what products are you selling?

Very quite but a steep rise in sales in Jan (When I started with the company! )
