Hi Rob

I have a friend who is currently looking for an iphone application - what are the sort of costs involved?

They are after something quite basic - essentially it is a quiz application.

There are so many iphone applications for business now - do new ones still have any impact or are they 'lost in the crowd'?

According to the adverts there's an app for just about everything

Given that I wonder if there is any room left for new applications... are all the niches filled already?

Further to the post I made in August I've read up quite a bit on iphone apps and it seems like a familiar tale.

The first few people who wrote a particular type of app made quite a killing financially. Then as soon as the masses jump on the bandwagon there are now an overload of apps and barely anyone even breaks even let alone make a profit.

Hi Tim

That's interesting.

I can imagine that to be the case though, first mover advantage is essential in business!

Yep, 99.9% of applications will flop!

What do people think about Apple deciding not to support Flash ongoing?

Is this because they are just too slow to support it, or is there something else going on...

Interested to know your answer.

I also work in app development, but there are a wide range of different types of apps now available and while game apps and sport apps can be lucrative, it can be difficult to get them exposed.

I have been building business apps for local businesses that allow them to market more effectively getting more new and repeat customers. The apps are similar to mobile websites in that they have all the information that a website can contain but have more interactive features.

QR codes can be used for loyalty programs - say if you have a coffee shop and want to offer " five coffees bought and get your sixth one free" The QR code can be scanned at the counter and when five are purchased the app shows that the next one is on the house. The apps also allow you to send out unlimited messages to the people who have downloaded your app for free. This is great for offering specials, discounts or telling your customers about new products.

Apps are really exciting and much more than just games and gadgets - they can be a really interactive way to promote your business.

Cheers, Jeanne

How does that QR codes program work, I don't understand?

I would be interested in examples where apps have helped businesses... they have to be downloaded first which means people need to know about them; if businesses can market that well do they need an app?
