Is the FSB a worthwhile expense...

I am sure when each of us started our small business we got targetted by the FSB who I believe try to arrange a meeting with every new small business that sets up to tell them about the FSB service and tap them up for membership.

I don't know what percentage of small businesses take up this offer but certainly the FSB has very healthy membership numbers.

However, do you think that it is a worthwhile expense - what are the services that make it worthwhile if so, and if not, why not?

It would be interesting to know what percentage of members feel that they get value for money from their FSB membership.

I met the FSB at an event two weeks ago, told them I was interested in joining and handed over my business card. I've heard nothing since!

However, a good friend tells me he considers his subscription to give excellent value because of the assistance their provide when he runs into problems.

I think I answered something similar a few months back, or asked something similar in the dim and distant.

Anyway from what I have heard it is worth it WHEN or IF you need their help, otherwise it is not.

The legal helplines and similar are good when things are bad or if you get sued etc. In general if your business is running ok and you don't need that sort of support then you won't get much back in return for your membership fee from what I understand from former members.

Yes this question comes up from time to time.

Like any organisation it seems to polarise opinion to some extent... there are people who will tell you how brilliant it is and others that will tell you it's a waste of their £150 quid or whatever the cost is each year - as ever you basically have to make up your own mind!
