Late Payment of Bills...

I'm sure this is a classic question, but I'm having problems getting a client to pay a bill of just over £100. I have tried emailing, emailing frequently, calling, then calling frequently. They are very pleasant each time and keep on saying they will get round to it soon, but no payment has happened.

I don't want to get aggressive but also on principle I don't want to have to write off the sum... are there any practical things that can be done?

The big problem with that small amount is it would cost this person more to get a company involved than £100 anyway, and to pay out more to get it would be crazy.
Also small claims department would not deal with sum of £100 these days.

As David says, payments like this are a nightmare if the client doesn't pay up because no-one will take on that small a debt to chase it up or at least not without charging more which then makes no sense!

Your only real option, if they don't want to play ball, I'm afraid is to chalk it up to experience and ask for payment for jobs under around £300 to be paid up front. Because the reality is for those small sums there is no real way of getting it paid through other processes.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

Personally, I hold back final reports until payment is received however that's not practical for everyone.
If someone is genuinely ordering a £100 item/service I'm sure they'll pay up front at that price.
