Legal changes Companies Act 1985...

In case you weren't aware, you now need to include certain information in all communications, which includes on your website, as a business:

Name, email address, postal address of the company

Company registration number

VAT number if the company has one (even on a non-ecommerce website!)

Will be interesting to see how many do this. Many businesses still don't - particularly small, work from home businesses who don't want to post their address to all and sundry online.

This is really stupid - if you work from home this is just making it ridiculously easy for stalkers, impersonators, con artists, fraudsters - not thought through at all. Can't see how it could be enforced either.

Like many of these things - not really thought through, I have to agree Tim!

Out of interest - are those of you with company websites here aware of this sort of thing?

It seems to me there an awful lot of things to have to check when starting up even the smallest business and it must be impossible for even the most diligent person to check compliance with absolutely everything

Thanks for your thoughts Tim, Sarah and Carl.

I visit a few websites run by businesses most days and view their contact pages, and I've not noticed any increase in percentage of sites that include these contact details.

I imagine a lot of work-from-home businesses agree with you Tim and the last thing they want is to make it even easier for spammers to harvest their postal address.

Good to hear your common sense views on this too. Like most things that are put through it hasn't really been thought through I don't think...
