Maternity leave law...

Hello,

Does anyone here understand the new maternity leave laws? An employee of mine has just asked for maternity leave and requested flexible working hours. Am I obliged to make these changes under maternity leave law?

Hi curious,

Don't know myself, however there are a couple of legal firms or their reps who check these forums fairly regularly, hopefully one of them will read this and be able to point you in the right direction...

Curi5ous,

Absolutely not! According to this site
http://www.simply-docs.co.uk/InformationPage.aspx?informationPageID=620 changes to the maternity leave laws mean that you have to consider offering flexible working hours but if it’s not feasible, then you just have to provide an explanation.

How about adding an FAQ of some sort for this sort of question?

There will be some fairly clear FAQ about this sort of thing on one of the government sites, the trouble as ever is finding the thing!!!

Good point Thomas - the government websites are almost impossible to navigate; they have you going around in circles most of the time trying to find the link to what you want!

I think they seriously need someone to help them sort out their navigation - doing tax returns or trying to find the right form for something online usually involves you going in circles three times until you find the form you want linked to under a different name!

Haha, If it affected me I might just put in the effort Thomas, but then again... since when did petitions ever achieve anything???

Did you find the answer to your question Curious? If so might be useful to share it here as others may come across the same thing!
