Microsoft Word and Auto complete...

Hi

This is probably a simple query, but when I enter some words in Word, it then changes it using I think auto complete. So for instance it might make the first letter a capital when I actually want it lower case, or correct a word that is actually spelt how I want it.

Is there a simple way to undo that and stop it happening on a case by case basis?

Hope this makes sense!

Thanks

David

Hi David

Can't be too specific I'm afraid, however there is sure to be a configuration option under one of the menus. I also find that the help with these things is quite helpful, so if you press F1 then type in 'autocomplete' into the search box, you are sure to come up with the relevant hint or piece of help.

Cheers

Jim

Hi David

I believe that if you press control and Z which is undo as soon as any change happens then this will roll back the change on that occasion. So for instance if you start a sentence with a lower case letter but want that to happen the press ctrl + Z once the auto-complete takes place and you should find that it goes back to lower case for you.

Hope this helps

Stephen

You can also turn Auto complete off totally through the settings. I'm afraid I don't have Word on the machine I'm using at the moment so can't tell you exact path to it, but you definitely can!

Try the help through F1 as suggested elsewhere - usually actually quite useful!

Cheers

Tim

On a slightly different note there are all sorts of useful functions you can set in Word that you may not know about.

For instance if you type specific words that are quite long on a frequent basis, you can set up little shortcuts that you type in and Word will recognise and replace with the long word.

So for instance you might enter 'fx' and you can have it replace that automatically with 'functionality' and so on. Particularly useful with long or hard to spell words for instance if you are writing a technical document. If there is an instance where you don't want it, you can simply press ctrl + Z straight after and it reverts to the actual text typed.

Hope this tip is useful!

Dan
