Million dollar homepage: great website or great marketing?...

As a recent graduate, I enviously followed the millionare homepage of Alex Tew and like many people thought 'that's easy, wish I'd thought of that!'

However the actual webpage itself - not actually very practical at all and I can't believe it actually benefited in terms of driving traffic to those who registered.

Is this a great example of superb marketing but actually a very poor website that delivers no return for anyone apart from the creator of the site, or is this being unfair?

I honestly think if I had had the idea myself I would have dismissed it or perhaps launched it but got no traffic and money just like all the imitation sites. Shows the importance of marketing I guess!

You ask a very interesting question. Personally I am convinced this is an example of superb marketing - marketing so good that it in fact manages to conceal the fact that the website actually fails to deliver any value whatsoever to those who advertise on it!

Great marketing.

His new site is not doing quite so well!

Forgot to post the URL of the new Alex Tew site, it's
pixelotto.com

The prize fund does not seem to have gone up very quickly, maybe it's stalled!

Just taken a look at the new site... very unimpressed. It's not even original as other sites have launched the lottery-pixel site (along with every other possible combination) long ago. Making money from a new concept the first time round: Fair enough; but trying it again; it's a bit cheeky isn't it

Definitely had superb marketing - the number of column inches dedicated to that first site must have been huge, overall.

What would be interesting to see is the actual return on investment for all those who advertised on the site and were seduced by that marketing...

I never thought much of the initial concept anyhow - the page was impractical for everyone, so definitely just a marketing stunt.
