More women than men shopping online...

More women than men are shopping online, and making purchases more frequently over the Internet, showed the latest survey on online shopping habits issued by MasterCard here on Monday.

The report, which surveyed 4157 respondents across Australia, Chinese mainland, China's Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand, showed that 78 percent of all women surveyed had shopped online, and that women shoppers comprised 57 percent of those who had shopped six times or more over a period of three months.

It also showed that price/value was the top consideration in terms of making an online purchase. In fact, of the 61 percent of women who admitted to shopping impulsively online, the substantial discounts and lower prices found online were often the trigger for this.

Seventy-five percent of female consumers who had shopped on impulse did so because of the lower prices, while 49 percent were attracted by the uniqueness of products which were only available online.

The products frequently purchased by female consumers included ladies' clothing or accessories, books and arts and cosmetics, said the survey.

While female consumers were shown to be more prone to impulse shopping, a slightly higher number of male shoppers were surprisingly more planned with their purchases.

The survey showed that 85 percent of male shoppers had conducted some research prior to their online purchase, compared to 82 percent of female shoppers.

In addition, male shoppers are spending more on their online purchases. Seventy-nine percent of men spent more than 100 U.S. dollars on online shopping over a period of three months compared to 72 percent of women shoppers surveyed.

This is possibly due to the types of products men purchase online, said the survey. Men were shopping for home appliances and electronic products, CDs/DVDs/VCDs and books and arts.

Well I liked this item on here re female shoppers, as it is fact that the female over the last 10 years are the most wealthy anyway, with 76% of women having more to spend than men. You only need go into any city, town, village shopping area and 80% of the folk will be females, most towns would soon die without them, it's fact, most cafes are seen these days with over 80% of people in them of the female form, soory men but your well out numbered, I should know I have a sister who can blow £400 in 3 days of shopping sprees, where poor ole me has only spent £600 this year so far, most of that was on bills.
David, no not moaning, just being honest.

This is interesting - I always thought it might be more men shopping online as women seem to love the whole experience of looking at clothes, trying them on and in general window shopping more than blokes

Its funny, right now I only have mens products for sale on my website, and over halve of the buyers have still been women. Cant wait to get the ladies stuff up next.

I think it might be because I have mostly designer shirts, not name brand labels, and ladies are a bit more fashion oriented.

Yes I think I am quite supprissed by this report too, as I know my sister loves the high street for looking round shops, though she has 2 computers and broadband, she has never bought anything on line.
Mind you in the UK women have a lot more money to spend than men, more women have jobs here than men (about 30% more work than men) and they get a lot more time off work than men eg women out number men teachers here 9 to 1 and in government departments women out number men by 30 to 1 man.
Maybe this is because women here are harder for firms to get rid of than men are too, as most women will sue a boss on sacking, where men just turn the air blue and leave.

It doesn't surprise me that women buy more online than men, as shopping has always traditionally been a woman's thing, so why should it be any different on the internet, which is just a computerised high street!

All the shops, under one roof, just a click away, makes it so much easier for impulse buyers.

Saying that, men aren't too far behind & eventually I feel that most shopping will be done online (if not already).

I'm not surprised either - I love shopping on the high street and online equally!
