In a previous business life my company had some twenty people with company cars and expense accounts. One of the staff in the accounts office was a chap who was a retired assistant bank manager, working three days a week. A key task for him was managing the expense claims. This would take him all of an hour. After a very short time people realised that if they tried anything on - out would come the red marker pen. It became worth paying his salary just so that everybody in the company knew he was still there. Why the Hell didn't the fees office in the Commons have someone who could perform like this?

I guess the answer is simply that it didn't suit them!

Like most people in normal jobs, those MP's who have twisted or broke the rules should be sacked and the police should look into.

Gordon Brown would never do the honourable thing, for the simple reason that he craves one thing and one thing only - to remain in power as long as he can!

I agree with what Phil says, but everything seems to have gone very quiet now that the media focus on moved on to new stories... will no-one keep the pressure on for justice to be done?

The other thing that grates is seeing people like Alan Duncan obviously implying they don't take it seriously and basically see the public as fussing over their god-given-right to take the money they want, and self-indulgently moaning that they are living on scraps.

I am no fan of Labour, but this started under the tories, rather than pay the mps inflation busting raises, they opted to do it on the sly and pad out the expenses.
