New updated website....

As you may know we have had a major revamp of our on line shop since the new year started, and this weekend we have scraped our old look at our main website and gone for a full clean sweep.
If you have time, I wonder if you could just have a look over it, test it out, and see how you like it.
Thanks for your help guys, it is always best to test a site out on more than just 1 PC here, and if it is working our site should allow ipod etc users see the site too.
Please let me know if your hand-helds can view it, that will be great.
Thanks
David

Hi there

I can't really remember what it looked like before to be able to make a comparison unfortunately!

How are things going with the new revamped site... are you finding that it is converting better for you?

It would be interesting to know what sort of percentage of visitors are converted into paying customers...

Well...

The site is certainly very light and quick to load.

It looks a little bit basic to me, I don't know why as in can't quite explain it, but just quite simplistic.

Not necessarily a bad thing but the products seem to be a few clicks off the homepage I think most shopping sites have images of products on the homepage and offers to add those key products and things.

I think the page fades look nice the first time but actually interrupt the customers journey and slow things down a bit.

If site target is to drive sales I suggest removing those fades, making products more prominent on homepage and throughout, making add to shopping cart buttons clearer and bigger.

I still use an old version of internet explorer on the computer I'm on now as the computer is, well, old.

It takes about five seconds for each page to load as those page transitions are really slow.

I know nothing about web design and so forth but I do know that when I go to a site I just want to see the products and do things quickly without fuss.

If it were my site I would get rid of the horrible and slow page transitions ASAP!!!

Hello, and may I thank you people for taking the time to respond to the message for web page review request.
All comments are very good, and I have noted the things mentioned about those fades, and slow loading, I quite understand that with older PC's and slower net servers some still sadly have will make things slow.
I use Firefox browser so I had not seen the fades myself as Firefox did not show them, but when I used Internet ExplorerI did see them, they look good to me with everything new and fast, but I can see the problem for slower severs.
As for the conversion rate eg sales, this is very odd, cannot explain it, but last year on our old web page we were getting 70% more hits than we do today, but the sales are up by 60% with very much less hits now.
Odd, anyone got any ideas as to how that is? confused here as I would have thought more hits not less would be better for sales.

I'm not one of the web experts, but that does sound odd.

Certainly more hits than less is better in general! Are you tracking visits to the site in the same way, maybe if you have changed tracking software then it is just due to that.

If the hits really have gone down, then you must be doing something better now on site than you were before to explain there being a higher conversion rate - that seems to be the only explanation!

I think from looking at your website having a specific landing page for each product would help improve conversions (at the moment your product pages are more like category pages which lowers the relevancy of individual keyword phrases as category pages are optimized for multiple product phrases). I think it takes to many clicks to get from homepage to the pages where you can see product specific information.

Also if ensure that your product specific pages are highly optimized then these individual pages will become indexed in Google. So then once a user click that organic link in Google they will arrive immediately at the product specific page and don't have to navigate your site to find a specific product and make a purchase.
