New Website = down on google...

Hi everyone,

New here and would appreciate your help.

We run an independent garage conversion company which has been established for 6 years. Our website has always appeared at about no 2 or 3 (after sponsored links). We recently had our website redesigned and it is sitting at No 5 (garage conversion) and No 8 (garage conversions)

We are spending a small fortune on Google Ads and wonder if their is anything obvious (to the trained eye) that we are missing/not doing/should be doing. Our web designer has done all that he can and we are techno novices - the thought of spending thousands on an 'SEO specialist' worries me as all the forums I have looked on advise against this(??)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jane

Hi Jane

Welcome to the forums, hope you find them useful for your business

Sorry to hear that your web rank has dropped below where you would like it to be.

Personally I would advocate having a text H1 element (main heading) at the top of the homepage as it's currently an image that is invisible to search engines. The H1 tag is an important SEO consideration.

Have you tried to get good quality backlinks from relevant sites to your site using your keywords as the links? Getting links in from as many places as possible will also be beneficial to your ranking.

In terms of getting an SEO specialist, they can cost a lot. You could consider dropping Pete Arkwright (on these forums) a line - I think his order book is full at the moment however he specialises in friendly priced SEO packages rather than thousands!

Incidentally I was using Internet Explorer 6 to look at your site and I don't think it displays correctly in that browser as there seems to be lots of overlaid content at the bottom right; here's a link to how it looked:
Display in IE6

Hope this is useful.

Good luck!

Dan

Rankings go up and down all the time in google, and often it seems that there is no particular reason for it, it just happens!

So don't get too down, it could just be one of those things rather than indicating something particularly wrong with your site...

Hi,
One thing comes to mind. I notice that the url of the website does not really describe the business. I would have thought that mentioning garage conversiolns would have been a good idea. The website itself looks good.

It is very important to regularly review your search rankings, using either a full time professional or your own search engine optimisation tools.

If you are not familiar with the technical aspect of websites, it saves a lot of time and stress working with someone who understands how it all works.

Although Search Engine Optimisation is labelled expensive, you will find sole traders and small seo companies very competitive.

If you are familiar with the technical side of websites, you can use a number of established tools to 'optimise' your site on an ongoing basis.
