New website now live....

I have spent my Christmas holiday busy building my new shop and today Sunday 4th January 2009 it went live at 5pm.
I was pleased to see that within 2 hours it had over 60 hits, which was not too bad.
If anyone on this forum has a website selling on-line like we do, I must stress how important it is to update your site as often as you can, that may be easy for people like us who update our own sites, but if you have to use outside help then the cost's will mostly outweigh any benefit.
All the best to you all.

What happens if you dont update your site? Do the search engines start to forget about you or something ?

Not trying to be cruel but... well... it looks a bit amateur to me. It would be worth spending (making up a figure here) a thousand pounds and getting a nice looking site done that will attract both search engines and humans and make you $$$ rather than do it yourself and end up with a site I doubt anyone would buy from.

Just out of curiosity do you get a lot of sales through the site?

I tend to agree with Chris - it could do with a little bit of a re-design to look more the part!

It's always good to get feedback, even "developmental" as they call it these days (good feedback = good feedback, negative feedback = developmental feedback )

Site looks completely terrible. It could be because I do not have java installed. I think it is not so good if you mandate this as user experience is horrible without.

Hello, all noted about Java, but yes all our sites contain Java because it makes a nice action site and not just plain text as 99% of sites do today, people simply wont sit on a website and just read an A4 page of text with a size 6 font, and that mostly has a dark back-ground with dark blue text, they simply hit a page like that, and leave.
We monitor our sites hourly 24 hrs of the day 365 days of the year, and people mostly stay on our web pages from 5 min to 1 hour, sadly very few sites today get visitors like that.
I read a report last month that the ave time anyone sits on a web page is 20 seconds, so we are happy.

From my limited understanding of these matters I am led to believe you would do much better giving your pages useful names rather than "Page 1" as currently.

Yes point taken, however we do not name the html page eg page1 when we load our home page for our shop, it is due to the program used that is the FTP doing that auto and will not allow name changed, if it is changed the page will not update.
Though it does read page 1 at the top of some web browsers only, it does not need to be typed, just Alternative4u will get to our pages on all 5 mirror sites.
Thanks for message,
David

All I can say is... if the site in it's current state is doing well and getting business then you could be a millionaire if it was sorted out, both from the SEO point of view and the look and feel!
