Problems with Paypal...

Does anyone else regularly have problems with taking payments through Paypal?

I use it for small transactions from people of just a few pounds each so it is the best way to do it.

However around one in ten people say that they are unable to pay and either their card, which they know is fine, gets rejected or they give some other unclear reason as to just saying that paypal does not work for them.

So what is causing these problems and do other people experience problems with paypal payments?

If it really is as high as about one in ten people seemingly having a problem then that could have big implications for ecommerce merchants potentially losing up to 10% of online transactions if that is the payment mechanism they use!

I just wondered if anyone else had experienced the same sort of thing, and what ecommerce sellers who depend on those transactions working for an income do... offer an alternative payment system too perhaps?

When I have tried to make payments with paypal I have sometimes experienced problems with my card, however it has been a temporamental thing which seems most confusing: sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Odd!

Thanks for the feedback.

And yes google does have its own payment taking product which as far as I'm aware is still around, but I don't see it very often on sites.

Paypal works well with me. Maybe there are problems with the account itself.

Google Checkout is the closest you are going to get as far as PayPal is concerned. A lot of merchants are now adopting this method as it's definitely competitive and does allow buyers to complete checkout even without an account.

Long term, you need to be considering a proper merchant account which will reduce your rates, offer better payment protection and more efficient direct bank deposits.
