Processing multi-curency payments...

Hi

One of my friends is just going through the motions of an ecommerce site and would like to know which currencies she 'should' make available for payment on her site.

It is UK based and most customers expected from here, but would also like to take orders from around the world if they come in.

Would just allowing UK payments put others off, or would it be OK?

Thanks for your input

Sasha

I would suggest having the option to process any currency you think will be used by at least 5% of people who place orders on your site (unless each order is of high value, in which case you should offer as many as you possibly can!)

Just to add many open source ecommerce systems have the capability to list prices in a range of currencies too and even Paypal will take the three main currencies for you no problem, so there is little excuse not to be flexible!

If it's a UK site then, as long as your friend is happy to ship to Europe and America, I would suggest taking payments in Euros and Dollars in addition to pounds sterling.

Use your web stats package to see where most of your visitors come from; it'll probably be UK then America then a range of European countries, but there can always be surprises!

Sasha, If your friend needs any help setting this up then feel free to point them in my direction.
