Social Networking Experts...

An interesting phenomenon I have noticed of late, with a wry smile, is how many "social networking experts" there are crawling around, or out of, the woodwork.

Virtually every article in internet/web/computing mags I read and online on various business related sites have quotes from some "expert" on social networking... mysteriously their qualifications for that lofty title are never made explicit.

It is a shame that the word expert has been devalued so much recently, to the extent that it means nothing. Why can't we be content with saying people know a little bit about something, the media has to portray everyone as an 'expert' or a luddite with nothing in between. And shameless self promoters are only too ready to be called an expert for the five minutes ego boost it gives. Meanwhile those who really know what they're doing are behind the scenes working the social networks, and no doubt making their millions. What I wouldn't give for a bit of their real knowledge!
