Hello all,

If you could take the time to fill in my questionnaire for my dissertation research I would be very grateful.

It's only 6 questions so it won't take long, just click the link below.

Thank you,

James

It depends on three factors:

1 - what your business is and what you sell

2 - how you use the site and how long you spend on it building up a profile

3 - the social networking site itself

I dont know whether you are a member of launchlab.co.uk but you might find the discussion there on this subject useful. http://forum.launchlab.co.uk/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=23
I think the general feeling is that it has some effectiveness, and is happening to a fairly large extent so getting your company included in what is going on may be as much a consideration as actual revenue created.

Define 'useful' is what I would say.

Like with anything, the more places you have a presence, the more chances you have of someone happening across you who just-so-happens to need your product or service.

So if your definition of 'useful' is 'could possibly lead to business' then yes it is useful. But knowing in advance the chances of landing business from any given site is pretty hard, so maybe it is best to spread your bets and try a few of them.

It is not really considered good practice to cross-link to posts on other forums from another forum site!

I believe that social networking can be useful as a marketing tool, but you need to target the right market. For instance sites like linkedin - if that counts as social networking - have an answers facility to show expertise and market yourself subtlely. Not sure about facebook which seems more 'person' orientated rather than business.
