I just wanted to share with you my top 5 tips to getting media coverage for your business
The first step to raising your profile is to believe that you can do it! It can seem a bit daunting if you have not approached press before or been featured – remember you are the expert on you and you have skills or products that can benefit people so promote yourself and let people know how you can help them.
Step 2 - Get clear on what your core message is. What type of business are you? Who is your ideal type of client? The clearer you can be on what the message is that you want to put across, the better you will come across.
Step 3 – Decide what type of media you would like to be featured in. Radio? TV? Newspapers? Local or national press? It’s always advisable to start locally if you are new to it. Research is the key. Take note of the type of subjects that are covered, their tone and content. Could something that you do fit in?
Step 4 – Write a press release ideally from a human interest angle, news worthy and relevant to the media you are approaching giving information on you and the message you want to put across
Step 5 – Contact the media outlets you wish to approach get a contact names and email addresses. Email your press release and follow up with a phone call in the next couple of days.
You don’t need pay a PR Consultancy thousands of, you can do your own PR by taking a few simple steps, building media relationships and following up. Persistence is the key
I have put got a free audio download on my website www.maritzaduncan.com with further info on how to raise your profile.
Let me know how you get on!

This is a very useful post

I think generally the whole process of PR sounds so daunting that it puts most people off before they begin.

Any tips for those who get frustrated by the process and creating a press release then not getting any exposure... is it to keep on trying?

Those are some great tips. I recently came back from a seminar at InternetWorld 2010 on getting media coverage for your business. The best type of coverage you can get for your business, has to be media coverage and the same applies to link building. By gaining media coverage and having these different media talk, mention, blog, post articles about your business you will quickly gain high quality inbound links to your company website propelling you up Google rankings.

The seminar notes can be accessed here: http://www.contextured.com/2010/05/a-creative-approach-to-link-development-is-the-difference-between-seo-success-and-failure-draft/

Hi Contextured

Do you find InternetWorld useful/worthwhile attended? I've meant to go for the last couple of years but in the end work commitments have always got in the way.

That's an interesting article you've linked to there.

It would be great if you could add your thoughts to the Editors Blog post here, I'm sure you'd have some interesting points to make:

Hi Dan

Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner, we have been really busy here. I have posted some effective search marketing tips in the forum your link directed me to.

When work permits you to go, make sure you do as it is worthwhile in my opinion. I gained some valuable Internet marketing knowledge which when combined with the news you get ahead of time concerning where the Internet/ Google/ Bing / Algorithms/ PPC Networks are heading it puts you in a great position to gain a foot up on the competition. If you implement some of the strategies it usually results in extra clicks, higher organic ranking and in some cases conversions.

I'm very interested and would like to know what the future holds for Clarity Media?
