Urgent Advice required: Marketing my Website (SearchACampus)...

Hello,

I recently launched a website

www[dot]searchacampus[dot]co[dot]uk (UK Version)
www[dot]searchacampus[dot]com (US version)

I desperately need some ideas about internet marketing??? How can I promote my website...

I don't mind investing money on Google Adwords or Facebook advertisement, but the problem is, like I said I recently started this website, so it doesn't have any users/user based data at the moment.
How can I resolve this issue?? Have anyone of you been is this situation ??????


Searchacampus is an online version of your campus noticeboard. Almost every student uses the noticeboard to put up advertisements about events happening around college, about stuff they want to sell, stuff they want to buy, services they offer, services they need etc. We have put all of that and more, online on one website

It sounds like a good idea of the site.

The problem is that it is one of those sites (like many others) where you really need lots of traffic and users and posts for it to be worthwhile.

It's the classic internet chicken and egg, and very few sites manage to crack it: but when they do, they tend to be very successful.

I wish I knew how to crack it: but sadly I don't! I suppose advertising it as much as you possibly can to your target market of students and any learning insitution you can think of would be the way to go, although it could cost quite a lot of money to do so...

Looks like a nice idea! I would actually look at some offline marketing for this... Maybe start off at your local Unis, get some flyers out and maybe sponsor an event to get a small user base up.

Once you have a base of students posting ads on the site, you can look at expanding to other colleges and campuses, and that's the time to start online marketing like PPC, or SEO.

I believe that Online marketing is the key (SEO, links, social media). It does however take time and you need to be very persistent. It pays off at the end!

Vijay - As a matter of interest, do you have any proof that your system works, companies you have provided services for that now rank very highly for competitive keywords?

Also what are your thoughts on this weeks Pubcon in Vegas, some very interesting marketing information has been discussed?

As for search a campus (the UK version) not sure what relevance the word 'campus' has to do with the UK, this word is seldom used in the UK. Of course the US version is more interesting.

General comments

The sites lacks clarity
The site lacks a hook - how do you intent to drag people from SM platforms, I have a site use this? Come on, we need more than that. Be original and think outside the box.

Yes, I would definitely start the site by marketing offline to online. In other words, I would get coverage for what you are doing from the University offline media, noticeboards, flyers, student fairs etc

I would also provide some incentive for visiting the site and registering - offer a free digital product that the students will find useful in order to get their email addresses.

I would collect student email addresses any way I could and then put them on an auto transponder and inform them regularly of new offers and entries on the site i.e. the emails would drive traffic back to the site.

The only way to create long term success is to put valuable and relevant content on the site.
