Using a business forum: email new members...

One simple tactic that you can use to grow your business and get leads is to email all new members to a business forum like this.

Just say hello, how are you, and ask a little about your business. No sales messages or even a mention of what you do in your first message, just get to know them and build up your relationship a little and it's amazing what leads may come your way in the future

Tim

What sort of 'hit rate' do you get out of this sort of thing, out of interest? Do you just end up giving lots of free advice or does it lead to concrete work from time to time...

It's more of a long term thing really... when they want something a few months down the line!

This is an interesting idea... however I imagine you have to be very 'soft' if you are trying to sell in your first couple of communications else the person may be a little wary!

This is an example of a good and simple online marketing strategy that works for free. It's also a case of the archetypal slow burn - something that may lead to learn a long time down the line as Tim says.

Nicely put Thomas.

Still, a slow burn strategy can be quite a good one, if it leads to a steady trickle of business down the line then that would probably be an ideal way to get new business.

Does this work on other business forums too Tim or just this one?
