Using a companies logo...

Hi all

Did you know that if you mention a company on your website then you are not allowed to include their logo along with the post you make?

Obviously we all know that you can't just use images that you find from the internet, but it is much less obvious that you can't use a logo.

So let's say you have a list of companies that offer a particular service on your website and then include a logo of one of those companies on the page... well that could land you in trouble and is actually against the law unless you have express permission from said company!

Just a heads up to anyone as it certainly wasn't obvious to me that this was the case, but a friend had a legal letter saying that action could be taken if they didn't remove a logo from a page like the above from their website within a stated time period.

Company logo is the sign which gives a very short view of the company, if there is a good logo, the visitor can say that the good company. And in case if the logo is not there, then that company has no value.

A mention of a company (in most circumstances) but using an image is breaching protected IP rights.

The safest rule is... don't use any image you didn't create yourself, or actively know you have the right to use (say one you've paid for from a legitimate image gallery).

It's a bit like parking tickets - thousands of sites exploit the rules and get away with it but if you do it on one occasion you'll probably get found out and get landed with a bill.

To be honest in most instances if you have a quality website and advertising an organisations services for them, you shouldn't really run into any problems.
