What do you think of corporate movies?...

What do you think of corporate movie promotions? I'm not talking about your cheesy Seventies Health & Safety videos, or your wooden Corporate Induction films, more along the lines of Movies for advertising and marketing.

If you've got a spare few minutes, I'm doing some market research at the moment and would greatly appreciate the feedback. Just a few questions...

For those who have used corporate movies before

1) How many times have you had a corporate movie made for your company?
2) What made you choose a corporate movie as a way of promoting your business/service/product?
3) How much did it cost, and did it go over the original budget?
3) Did the final product meet your expectations?
4) Would you think of using corporate movies in the future?

For those of you who haven't used corporate movies before

1) Would you be interested in a corporate movie for your business, and if so, what interests you about using them?
2) How much would you expect to pay for a professional production service?
3) How much control over factors like script, actors, design, lighting etc would you want over the movie?
4) How would you incorporate the movie into your marketing/advertising strategy?
5) Would you consider movies for New Media such as mobile phones and the internet?

Thanks a lot; it'd be a great help if you could put some answers down

Daniel

Corporate movies are an interesting thing - most companies that use them are large companies with an in-house team to do them for them, aren't they?

Smaller companies probably won't have the budget to create a corporate movie... interesting to know what sort of costs are involved though.

They're not as expensive these days, especially if you choose to work with a production company outside of the M25!!

Production costs have dropped dramatically in the last 5-10 years - film has been replaced with Digital Video, VHS tapes have died a death in the face of DVD - these days Corporate Movie Production is no longer the realm of big business.

To be concise, it depends on what you want: one full-blown movie production with all the bells and whistles? A few five-minute shorts for your website? Some 1-minute clips for e-mail? Or maybe a batch of seconds-long clips for mobile phone marketing? Remember, if you're choosing a new media outlet and not looking to send out hundreds of physical copies, the cost of duplicating all those movies disappears!

Once you've decided on what you want it for, next think about what it is you want in the movie? How many locations? How many hours can YOU commit to the production. It's alright for a production company to come along and bill you for a week's worth of filming in your factory or office, but how much is that going to disrupt your work? Could you feasibly get the job done in two days?

And lastly, how much control would you like to have over the process? Would you like a complimentary first consultation to discuss which type of movie is best for you? Would you like to help script or storyboard it? Are you interested in the look of the film? Fancy having a featured role?

All things which you should consider, but to summarise, it's viable, it's cheaper than you think, and it could be the right thing for you. If you're interested in pursuing the idea further, we'd be more than happy to help!

Regards,

Daniel

I doubt many small businesses would use corporate movie productions! However here would be my immediate thoughts:

2) How much would you expect to pay for a professional production service?

Would expect the cost to be £500/day to hire the services of a small professional production team, e.g. 2 people.

3) How much control over factors like script, actors, design, lighting etc would you want over the movie?

Script would be essential, obviously, though I would imagine you'd feed the ideas in and have the script written by the company and then check it; or to cut costs you'd write the whole thing yourself.

Actors - depends on the situation; if it's a video that requires knowledge, e.g. product demonstration at a factory, then you'd want to use a company employee

4) How would you incorporate the movie into your marketing/advertising strategy?

Hopefully people using such a service would have worked this one out up front
