What is a DLL file?...

Hello all

Hoping someone can help me; recently on switching on my computer it has moaned about a missing DLL file.

Anyone know what this means? It hasn't stopped any of the programs working - yet - but is mildly annoying to see each time the computer is switched on!

A DLL is "A file containing executable code and data bound to a program at load time or run time, rather than during linking. Several applications can share the code and data in a dynamic link library simultaneously."

It is possible that one application has been uninstalled or reinstalled and removed a shared file, or simply that some software has got slightly corrupted or not installed itself cleanly on your system.

Search on Google for the specific error you have and see if there is any help available, track down the program responsible for the DLL and take it from there.

No problem; when these errors occur you usually haven't done anything wrong yourself!

Wiki sites... they have the answer for everything don't they

Just don't ask who writes them or how accurate the information on them is...

Yep... most searches you can think of these days that are looking for information of some sort will have a wiki site of some description on the first page.
