WordPress and business blogging solutions...

I am thinking of starting a business related blog... I know, one of tens of millions.

But anyway, that's by the way.

What I am more interested in is what is the best tool out there for blogging from the business perspective.

Wordpress is something I see mentioned often in the PC mags that I read while I am in WHSmiths every now and then... and I think it seems to be quite a popular choice.

Are there any other options or is Wordpress the one to go with?

I think word press is the way to go, they have so many good gimmicks to make your blog, professional, stand out and SEO friendly.

If you look at our blog ( http://www.contextured.com/blog/ ) which is done with Word Press you will see the categories section Word press allow you to create which will get listed in Google search results with the description of the particular category,

You can also apply page break in posts as you can see our posts have, with the caption 'read the full post'

You can also see that each snippet is nicely organized by the date of when it was posted. This can be clearly seen in the top left corner of all posts

Overall Word Press makes it a lot easier to manage and maintain a professional business blog.

I use Wordpress. I absolutely love it. It is so so easy to use and user friendly. Search engines also love it. The fact that it doesn't cost is a bonus. So I would recommened it.

I have also read that google in particular loves word press and that blogs on word press will tend to rank more highly than with other software. Does anyone know if that is actually true or not, and what makes that the case if so?

Lianne, it is true and due to the fact that WordPress comes with very well optimized engine that requires little to none technical intervention ( just add a couple of SEO-related plugins, set search engine friendly URLs and away you go ! ) to make it really great performing - fast indexation is the key to its success with Google.

Wordpress is the bees knees, with a little know how and knowledge it can be made to function as the best CMS there is. Google loves Wordpress also so - that helps. I highly recommend it

Although there are billions of blogs out there, this means that there is room for billions more, so yours may as well be one of them.

Also remember that of the billion (or whatever) blogs out there, about 99% are dead, being used heavily for about six months at best by the user before they gave up due to lack of interest and abandoned the blog.

Just remember to ensure that you have spam filtering enabled and moderate posts: otherwise as soon as your site gets any search engine interest you will inundated with spam posts by nasty robots!

Wordpress is best for beginners. There are many plugins available that would suits your needs.

I wonder if the use of "out the box" solutions like Wordpress etc which many companies now use for their whole websites has meant a large dent in income for web design companies?

Most people who use wordpress seem to like it - the only problem can be with spam and trying to police it, particularly if you have a semi-popular site.

However I have also heard that google tends to treat wordpress blogs preferentially to those with other software, so that's a good point if it is true!
