Partners in Business...

Hi guys,

Do any of you work with a partner or partners in your business/line of work. I was just wondering how did/do you go about choosing one? I am reading Richard Branson's Auto-biography at the moment and it seems to me, the reasons for his success is that he's always had a few partners to discuss things with. To contribute in ideas etc.

Damion.

Hi Damion

Very interesting point. Personally I discuss everything business related with my partner in the personal sense, however as he is a gifted businessman he doubles as a business partner too, in many ways.

I certainly find it very useful to have someone to bounce ideas off and to review documents and so on - with the best will in the world having two opinions or two pairs of eyes is often very beneficial and it is hard to go it alone.

Do you work by yourself currently?

On the point of how to find a suitable business partner, all I can suggest is through networking and the more people you meet the more likely you are to encounter someone suitable.

Sasha x

Damion,

I just finished a book called Lessons in Leadership- basically about what to avoid as you grow or manage a company. The biggest 2 lessons that each CEO had was:
1. Never take venture capital money (unless your business depends on it)
2. Almost never go into a partnership. Almost all of the failures were because of a bad partnership. They recommended not doing this unless you have known the person for years, and SPEND the money to have this all in writting through an attorney if you do get a partner.

I have been running my business for 2 years on my own and almost did the partner thing early on. So glad I didnt.

Alex
