Hi all

Looking for your thoughts on affiliate schemes... are they worth joining; which ones work / don't work etc?

Cheers Carl

And there's http://www.amazon.co.uk of course which offers a good affiliate scheme.

Hope this helps.

The key with affiliate programmes is that there is a good fit between your own website and the content / products on offer, and the offering of the owner of the affiliate scheme.

Even with very attractive commission rates, if your site is on a completely different topic, then click throughs and pro rata commissions are likely to be poor.

However if there is an obvious marriage between the two then you are likely to get much more attractive click throughs and commissions.

General caveats:

Check the payment terms of the scheme. Sometimes the ways you can receive money is limited, there are high payment thresholds (e.g. £100 or more, depending on your expectations this can be very high!) and extended periods to wait for your money (3 months).

Therefore tried and tested and established schemes can be best. As Lynn mentions Amazon has an excellent one with tiered rates - the more business you put their way the better the commission you get. Create a shop containing books related to your business for instance and you can get a nice addition with little effort, and get decent pocket money affiliate income as a result

All the best,

Dan
