At some stage a large number of successful businesses will need to recruit more staff. For a company that was initially a one man band this could be due to organic growth and there simply being too much work for one person to manage.

For many companies, a certain number of core staff are inherent to the business plan - an expert marketeer, a technical person to manage the company website, sales people, financial manager and so on and so forth.

Recruiting as a business is a big deal. You want to make as sure as possible that you get the right person, or persons, for the job. Doing this is not easy, particularly if you don't have much experience of recruiting directly.

What skills does the ideal candidate need?
What questions should we ask the candidates to find this out?
Do we have to skills to recognise the right candidate when they come to interview?
How fussy should we be if no dream candidate comes to interview?

There will also be all the practical issues of salaries and any other perks you may wish to include or negotiate on. But principally, it is critical that you have a good interviewer to ensure that the candidates are put at ease and that they are able to display to perform to the best of their abilities. This is crucial if you are to get a good and accurate picture of them. You do not want inexperience or asking the wrong questions to let your ideal candidate slip through the net.
